Yeshwantpur is all set to become an inter-modal transit centre soon. On Tuesday, the Bangalore Metropolitan Tran-sport Corporation (BMTC) dedicated the Traffic and Transit Management Centre (TTMC) at Yeshwantpur to commuters. There is a railway station in the immediate neighbourhood of the TTMC. Once the Namma Metro corridor on the adjacent Tumkur Road becomes operational, Yeshwantpur can boast of an inter-modal transit centre, facilitating easy switch over between the various modes of transport.

Home and transport minister R Ashoka, who inaugurated the TTMC, said, "When the Metro station is completed on Tumkur Road, Yeshwantpur will become an inter-modal transit centre. People can hop off a Metro train and hop on to a bus from the TTMC, or otherwise reach the TTMC and hop on the metro for inter-city travel through public transport."

The Yeshwantpur TTMC, worth Rs91.90 crore, is the ninth such centre dedicated to commuters in the city. Another TTMC will be inaugurated in Banashankari in a week's time.

Ashoka also announced that, within three years, BMTC will see 1,000 buses complying with Bharat Stage 4 (BS4) engines fitted to them, which will reduce emissions to a great extent. A trial-run was already implemented with one bus, earlier this month.

"The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has started using the blend of ethanol and diesel and reducing pollution. As the prices of conventional diesel fuel is being increased every few months, it might only be beneficial to use an alternative fuel," stressed Ashoka.

He also announced that four new TTMCs will be built by the state government under the PPP model for which the tenders will be called for shortly. These TTMCs will come up in Hebbal, Jayanagar, Kathriguppe, and Indiranagar.

Balagangadharnath Swamiji from Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Dr Ashwath Narayana, MLA of Malleswaram, the corporators of Yeshwantpur, Rajarajeshwarinagar, and Mathikere, mayor Sharadamma and deputy mayor S Harish were present at the event. The BMTC Traffic and Transit Management Centre that was inaugurated at Yeshwantpur in Bangalore on Tuesday —DNA
