Former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s wish to spend Diwali  at home will remain just that — a wish. The high court on Monday adjourned his bail plea to October 28, which means that Yeddyurappa will spend his Deepavali in Parappana Agrahara central jail.

Though it will be a far cry from the mandatory oil bath, puja and time spent with his grandchildren, Diwali in jail won’t be all that bad for Yeddyurappa.

He is planning to perform  a special puja inside his cell, which, according to the jail authorities, is adorned with images of various Gods and Goddesses. The ex-CM, it is being said, is also well versed with the mantras.

Yeddyurappa’s family members are likely to bring flowers, coconuts, fruits, incense sticks and other items. Special dishes will be brought by the respective families on the festival day, said the jail authorities.

Parappana Agrahara has at least 20 temples within the complex and and each has a designated priest — in this case, an inmate serving time for a crime. The three priests who will perform the special Diwali puja on Tuesday are said to be Brahmins who have been convicted of murder.
