Defending his action in all fronts, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Tuesday sent an 11-point response to Union home minister P Chidambaram, who had written to him last week after the Centre rejected governor HR Bhardwaj’s special report on recommendation of president’s rule in the state.

While it was reported that Union home ministry had sent an advisory to the chief minister in the backdrop of rejecting the governor’s report, sources close to the chief minister said the letter sent out by the Centre was not under Article 355 of the Constitution and was not advisory in nature. Chidambaram had sent a personal letter raising 11 points. In turn, Yeddyurappa responded to all the points raised.

On the church attack issue, Yeddyurappa replied, “The BJP government has taken up all measures to protect the minorities, especially Christians. After the church attack incidents, we have tightened the security and appointed judicial commission under the head of justice BK Somasekara Commission, which ruled out the role of Hindu activists and said it was the act of some miscreants. In 2011-12 state budget we earmarked ¤50 crore for the development of Christian community.”

On action against Reddy brothers, chief minister’s response was: “Till now, the court has not indicted Reddy brothers and the lok ayukta too has not named Reddy brothers on illegal mining. Unless they are proven guilty, how can I take action?”

On Katta Subramanya Naidu issue too, he defended his action saying the court has not given final judgement against him. Yeddyurappa also defended the setting up of justice Padmaraj Commission for the inquiry into the alleged land scams against him. He denied the allegations that BJP government is interfering in the functioning of the lok ayukta.

“The state has given a free hand to probe any issue. Our government has given more powers to the Lokayukta and provided essential staff to the institution,” he said.

On illegal mining issue, the chief minister blamed the union government that Karnataka is time and again demanding for nationalisation of minerals and banning of exports completely. But it is keeping mum and has not declared its stand. The state has taken several steps to put an end to illegal mining activities in the state.
