Work pressure claimed the life of yet another professional, who committed suicide after killing his two-year-old daughter in his flat in Kudlu village during the early hours of Wednesday.

The 32-year-old techie, identified as Santosh Sarode, had failed to complete a project in time. On Monday, he had quit from his position as technical lead (finance) with Infosys, six months after joining the company. A native of Bidar, Santosh was being treated for depression at Apollo Hospital in Bannerghatta Road for the past three months, said the police.

Santosh’s father Vasantha Rao Sarode, a central government employee, said his son fell into depression after joining Infosys. Santosh was asked to quit as he was not able to complete a project assigned to him on time, said Vasantha Rao.

After resigning, Santosh had on Tuesday requested his superiors not to accept his resignation. But it had already been accepted. He might be frustrated as he had to quit the job without finding an alternative.

Vasantha Rao said Santosh did not have any problem with his wife or any other member of the family.

A statement issued by Infosys, without any mention of the situation that led to Santosh’s resignation, said the company was saddened by the unfortunate demise of its employee.
“Our sympathies and prayers are with the family of the deceased. Infosys will provide all necessary support to the family in their hour of grief,” the statement said.

The incident took place in Garudadri Apartment, Kudlu village under Parappana Agrahara police station limits. Santosh had moved in to the three-bedroom flat a year ago and was staying with his wife and daughter.
Santosh first killed his daughter Heena by hanging her to the window grill using a curtain cloth. He then hanged himself to the ceiling fan.

The incident came to light around 5.15 am when Santosh’s wife Sushma, also a techie with another company in the city, woke up. Unable to find Santosh and Heena by her side, Sushma went to another room where she found them hanging.
Heena, who was still breathing, was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The police shifted the bodies to Victoria Hospital  for post-mortem examinations, after which they were handed over to the family.
