The legal fraternity will hold a protest rally from KR Circle to Raj Bhavan at 9 am on Monday, and later, stay away from court proceedings, to protest the alleged attack on lawyers by the police and journalists at the City Civil Court premises on Friday. They have also informed the police about their plans for Monday. The police have made security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents.

The Karnataka Bar Council and Advocates Association of Bangalore have already adopted a resolutions calling upon lawyers to stay away from courts on Monday. The resolution read: “There have been concerted attempts to portray the advocates as villains. Even though many advocates and even judges were beaten up, the media played a partisan role by not presenting these incidents. The media did not show this even once.”

The legal fraternity
has accused the media of being biased against lawyers and acting in collusion with the police to encourage excesses heaped upon them. The lawyers are also likely to stage a protest in front of court premises all over the state.

Mediapersons, too, have decided to continue their protest, demanding arrest of lawyers who were involved in the attack on the media. The Bangalore Press Club, in association with Bangalore Reporters’ Guild and other organisations representing journalists, has organised a protest at Bangalore Press Club on Monday.

The journalists are likely to hold a silent protest march to Gandhi Statue on MG Road, demanding action against lawyers who attacked journalists who went to cover the trial of former minister Janardhana Reddy at the City Civil Court on Friday.
