One more syndicate meeting of Bangalore University, one more war of words, and one more resultless effort of syndicate members to find solutions for the varsity’s long pending issues.
The fight, therefore, continues between the syndicate members of Bangalore University even in the special syndicate meeting held on Monday.

Bangalore University had  called a special syndicate meeting to discuss few issues including the demands of non-teaching staff in the university, which was adjourned to May 17 as no discussion was held in the meeting.

The meeting took another look when a group of syndicate members demanded the vice-chancellor N Prabhu Dev to remove three officials of the university.

“A group of syndicate members tried to attack other members, including the registrar (evaluation). They threw water bottles at the registrar and other members who opposed the discussion on that particular issue,” the V-C said.

However, neither the V-C  nor registrar (administration), BC Mylarappa, were clear about the agenda of the meeting.

The main agenda was to discuss the demands of non-teaching of the university, said registrar BC Mylarappa. However, Prabhu Dev did not agree with the registrar and said, “According to the protocol, the non-teaching staff association is not the authority to set the syndicate agenda, so I rejected the demand.”

But Mylarappa had his own argument towards that. “We received the memorandum from the non-teaching association to include their demands in the syndicate agenda. As per that, some members demanded discussion on the issue but the vice-chancellor did not agree to it.”

It is not the first time that the BU Syndicate has ended up without any conclusion and proper discussion.  Few months ago, matters reached the then higher education minister VS Acharya who directed the university to resolve issues within the premises.

Recently a group of syndicate members submitted a memorandum to chief minister Sadananda Gowda demanding the enquiry against the appointments made by Prabhu Dev. The chief minister had then directed had asked for the convening of a syndicate meeting to discuss the issues.

Prabhu Dev has alleged that he had received threats to his life from some syndicate members and university employees.
