Responding to the state higher education minister VS Acharya’s new fee proposal of Rs32,500 for undergraduate engineering courses, the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) wrote to him on Saturday and clarified their standpoint.

In the letter, KUPECA stated that they are not ready to accept the fee structure which Acharya had proposed.

“We have decided not to discuss anything about the fee structure or seat sharing till the high court gives judgment for the petition filed by the association. Also, the association is not ready for Rs32,500 fee structure,” the letter stated.

“After discussing the issue with our legal advisors, we have come to this conclusion, and we will not sit for any discussion with the government until the high court’s judgment. Further decisions will be taken based on the high court order,” said sources from the association.

A week ago, the KUPECA had filed a petition before the high court questioning the government’s attitude for not publishing the Padmaraj Commission report on fee determination.
Following the petition, the high court had issued a notice to the government.

“We are firm in our decision of Rs40,000 proposal, and further decision will be taken after the court order,” said a management representative.
