Guess what’s keeping mining scam-accused former minister Gali Janardhana Reddy, who is in judicial custody, busy these days? Renovating his cell inside Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
“Reddy bought a television set on Saturday,” said a source at the jail. “There was no TV in his cell since it had been allotted to another cell. He would have had to wait for some prisoner to be released to be able to get a TV set. So, he bought a TV with his own money.”
An officer told DNA that Reddy also wanted to refurbish the cell (No. 5 in the high-security Wing No. 3) according to his taste. Two contractors were called to the jail on Saturday since Reddy wanted to install a fibreglass door in his cell, for which he had got permission from senior officers at the jail. Reddy paid for all the changes.
Another officer said Reddy was also unhappy with the bed provided to him in jail. So on Saturday he got a new bed for himself—one that has been imported from the US. The officer said Reddy has spent more than `1,00,000 to make his stay in jail more comfortable. Reddy also got food from a five-star hotel on Saturday.
The court has given him permission to have home food.
On Friday, Reddy had received napkins, a towel, a blanket and some other items of daily need from home.
Reddy was said to be very unhappy about the facilities provided to him in Hyderabad’s Chanchalaguda jail, where he was kept since his arrest last year before he was brought to Bangalore in the beginning of March.
Incidentally, Reddy is in the cell that was allotted to former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa when he was jailed for some time last year.
