Actor Swara Bhaskar took her first virtual step towards films when she found herself addicted to Chitrahaar, one of the hottest Hindi music television programme of the 80s.

“I was smitten by the Hindi songs as a child and even then, I wanted to do films,” says Swara, who plays the second lead in the upcoming film Tanu Weds Manu.

“The only kind of formal training I’ve received was in Bharatnatyam. But my fascination for the camera pushed me towards Mumbai, without any lessons in acting, and I was quite fortunate to have signed my first film within two months of coming to the city,” informs the actor, who’s believes that chance had a strong role to play in her change in luck.

“I had accompanied a friend who was going to return the script to a director who had fallen ill. I happened to read the script and was completely mesmerised by it. The director’s phone number was on the script so I called him up. That’s how I signed my first film Niyati,” offers the actor.

Incidentally, Swara has been part of two films so far — Niyati and Madholal — both of which are pretty deep stories. Therefore, when Tanu Weds Manu came along, she lapped it up. “I got to dance to my heart’s content in Tanu Weds Manu,” says Swara, who is eagerly awaiting the film’s release. Her next step however would be to check out films down South.

“From the time I got into films, my grandmother, who passed away last year, wanted me to do to a Telugu film. I guess her soul will rest in peace when I actually do one,” signs off the actor.
