The suspense over chief minister BS Yeddyurappa continuation in office will continue for a day or two, as the Union government has not shown any urgency in taking a decision on governor HR Bhardwaj’s recommendation to impose president’s rule in the state.

On Wednesday evening, a Yeddyurappa-led delegation of ministers met the governor and sought permission to convene the legislative session from June 2. Offering no categorical assurance, Bhardwaj said the chief minister would have to wait a day or two. “The Union government has not taken any decision on my report. I hope they will take a decision on my report within two days. Then only will I reply,” the governor said.

Though the governor has not given the green signal for convening the legislature session, Yeddyurappa exuded confidence that the session would be held.

Addressing the media later, the CM said: “In the last two days we, along with NDA leaders, met prime minister Manmohan Singh and president Prathibha Patil. They, too have assured us that no unconstitutional decision would be taken. We hope that the Union government will reject the governor’s report.”

The state cabinet which met on May 13 had resolved to convene both the houses of state legislature with effect from May 16. Accordingly, the resolution was submitted to the governor who did not respond.  “Subsequently, the state cabinet met on May 16 and resolved that it is necessary to pass the full budget. Hence it has been decided to convene the legislative session for a period of 10 days from June 2,” said Yeddyurappa explaining the urgency.
