S Bangarappa wants BS Yeddyurappa disqualified for ‘false’ affidavit

Former chief minister and JD(S) leader S Bangarappa has sought disqualification of Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa for allegedly filing false affidavit on his assets and liabilities.

"By filing false affidavit before the Election Commission (EC) during 2008 assembly elections, chief minister Yeddyurappa has committed an error. We have already filed a petition before the EC for disqualification of Yeddyurappa from his state assembly membership," Bangarappa (pictured) said.

Addressing the media, he demanded the EC to take action against Yeddyurappa for offences punishable under section 177 (furnishing false information) and section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code for violating EC directions.

In the affidavit furnished during the elections while contesting from Shikaripura, Yeddyurappa had concealed the details of his assets.

The details of the assets Yeddyurappa filed before the Lokayukta during 2007 and those in the affidavit before the returning officer of Shikaripura constituency contained discrepancies. "There is a huge difference in assets declared by chief minister recently. EC should take all details into consideration," Bangarappa demanded.

Yeddyurappa has not disclosed to the returning officer the LIC policy for Rs1.70 lakh and rental advance amounting to Rs33 lakh obtained from Adarsh Group, one of the property developers named in the land scam, Bangarappa said.
