A jewellery shop owner and his employees were injured when two unidentified robbers attacked them and escaped with gold worth Rs10 lakh in Ramamurthy Nagar around 11 am on Monday.
The robbers were wearing helmets covering their entire face, making identification difficult.

Police said one of the robbers hit shop owner Prakash Chaudhary with an iron rod, while the other smashed the glass of the showcase and collected the jewellery. Glass shards injured the salesman, Surendar.

Prakash’s brother Parasmal Chaudhary, who rushed to the jewellery shop on hearing the screams of the injured, said he saw two men rushing out. They escaped on a black Bajaj Pulsar parked in front of the shop. Parasmal has been running a textile showroom next to his jeweller brother.

Prakash has been admitted to Manipal Hospital with head injuries. “He is not sure how much gold has been taken away. He will get to know only after getting discharged from the hospital. We suspect at least half kilogram gold worth Rs10 lakh has been robbed,” an investigator said.

Fingerprints experts and the dog squad visited the scene. Police formed three teams to nab the daring robbers. Joint commissioner of police (crime) Alok Kumar said the culprits spoke Kannada. He expressed hope that the robbers would be arrested soon.
