Banashankari police on Tuesday arrested three persons for allegedly kidnapping and murdering cab driver Anand, whose decomposed body was found in Kyathasandra near Tumkur.
A resident of Raghavendra Layout in Padmanabhanagar, Anand was working as a cab driver for a BPO in Marathahalli. He was allegedly murdered over professional rivalry with another cabbie, Jayaram, 23.
Police on Tuesday arrested Jayaram, a resident of Narasayyanapalya in Tumkur district, along with his cousins Pradeep, 24 and Venkatesh, 19. Anand and Jayaram had differences over route allotment. Anand, with help from his friends, had assaulted Jayaram in Adugodi.
It was revenge
Agitated and determined to get even with Anand, Jayaram hatched the plan to eliminate the former. On August 28, Jayaram called Anand and told him that he needs to buy a car.
The unsuspecting Anand rushed to Marathahalli from where the three took the victim-to-be towards Tumkur in an MUV. Anand was strangulated near Urdigere village of Kyathasandra. They dumped the body in a small pond, but Anand gained consciousness and emerged from the pond. Venkatesh and Pradeep then held Jayaram and slit his throat.
Kyathasandra police found the body on Saturday. They contacted Banashankari police, who had alerted other police stations about Anand going missing. Anand’s sister Manjula identified the body. After preliminary investigation, Banashankari police detained Jayaram, Venkatesh and Pradeep on Monday. The arrest was formally made on Tuesday.
