The police are waiting for the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report to take action against Spandana Nursing Home, where Kannappa, 34, died on Monday night. “We are verifying CCTV footage to ascertain what happened. But the doctor who conducted postmortem said that Kannappa’s lips, cheeks and parts of his eyes were bitten by the rats after his death,” said a police official. The police said that they are investigating the case based on a complaint filed by Kannappa’s brother Gopal.

Kannappa’s relatives had alleged that the hospital authorities stole his eyes. On Wednesday, the doctor showed Kannappa’s eyes to them at Victoria Hospital. The viscera of Kannappa’s body have been sent to the FSL for examination. The report will reveal whether the rats bit him before or after his death. “We can take action against the hospital authorities based on the FSL report,” added the official.

On Monday, the hospital staff shifted Kannappa’s body to the mortuary after his death, but it is not in good condition. “We suspect that rats bit him in the mortuary,” said the police.
