Police pulled up over noise pollution in Bangalore

The HC on Monday came down heavily on the police for causing noise pollution in the city by allowing religious groups to use loud speakers without permission and asked why licences were given without checking the amplifiers.

The division bench said:  “When the police give licences, they have to check the amplifiers.”

In a PIL, the Jayanagar Nagarika Samithi alleged the BBMP was not taking any step to curb noise pollution created by the use of loud speakers by religious institutions without obtaining a license.
The petitioners said though there was a law to prevent noise pollution, no action had been taken.

The petitioners contended that according to the Supreme Court guidelines, loud speakers should not be used from 10 pm to 6 am.
