The government on Monday filed its statement of objections in a case related to the post-graduate (PG) medical entrance exam scam, in which the results of 11 toppers were nullified, for alleged malpractices.

Vinod Karjgi, Haridattatreya Mantagni, Dhananjay and the other toppers had filed a petition in the high court submitting that media reports disclosed that their ranking in the provisional list for PG courses in medicine would be nullified, due to alleged malpractices committed by them.

The government in its objections said that if the petitioners are allowed to participate in the counselling, it would naturally allow them to choose the better branch of the PG courses and the real students who ought to have got the seats would be deprived of the courses.

The government said that in view of the number of complaints filed by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, a complaint was registered before the Bellary police on March 14, seeking an investigation.

Thereafter, the students were summoned to the police station and their statements obtained between March 19 and 27.
