The Friday’s tussle in Bangalore University between vice-chancellor N Prabhu Dev and registrar (administration) BC Mylarappa over the suspension of an official is showing no signs of cooling down.

Mylarappa on Saturday said teachers and non-teaching staff would stage a dharna on Monday against the vice-chancellor’s way of functioning. “Almost all departments will be on strike and classes will be affected on Monday,” he said.

On Friday, the registrar had suspended Syed Jamal, an officer on special duty for examination branch for misuse of funds. However, within hours, the vc was said to have negated the registrar’s order and termed it as ‘null and void’.

Mylarappa claims Jamal has misused about `3.1 lakh and said he would be writing to the principal secretary of higher education in this regard and request him to recover the amount from Jamal.
On Saturday, when Jamal reported for duty, his chamber was found locked and had to be forced opened.

‘Oust Mylarappa now’
Additional legal advisor to Bangalore University, GR Gurumath, responded to the show-cause notice issued by registrar (administration) BC Mylarappa by saying that the registrar should be dismissed immediately.

“I am sure that the widely publicised so-called confidential show-cause notice is an attempt to browbeat me from discharging my responsibilities to ensure the implementation of the court orders regarding withdrawal of degree of  PhD to M Venkataramanappa on the ground of plagiarism, for whom you were the guide. Hence, I strongly recommend to the Government of Karnataka to replace you immediately as the registrar,” Gurumath’s letter read.

Reportedly, Mylarappa had called Gurumath several times but the latter did not respond. Reacting to this, Gurumath wrote: “I am surprised to note that you have resorted to white-lies as regards to the communication between me and you. The number of calls between your and my mobile and the transcript of the discussion between me and you will establish the truth of your falsity.”

Gurumath has sent a copy of the letter to the VC.
