“The police have been working hard to bring the crime rate down in the city and hopefully we have done the work satisfactorily in year 2011. In 2012, the police will put in additional effort to curb crime. That’s commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji’s message to Bangaloreans on New Year’s day.

“I have already submitted a plan of action when I took charge as DG and IGP. They will be completed in the next four months without fail,” said DG and IGP Shankar M Bidari.

“Our goal is to reach the people and be friendly. We will bring the crime rate down,” said additional commissioner of police (law and order) T Suneel Kumar.

This year, the city police will get an additional 1,000 police officers, said Mirji.

“The raids on criminals’ houses will continue since raids proved to be successful in 2011. We can keep the track of their activities and thwart their plans,” he added.

Due to the raids, criminals have begun hiding weapons outside their homes to mislead the police into believing that they have stayed away from crime, he noted.

“But we will keep a close watch and we will raid houses of their relatives and friends if necessary,” said Kumar. A model people-friendly centre was inaugurated recently and such centres will come up across the city so that people are not scared to seek police help, said Kumar.

The number of meetings with the people in respective jurisdictions will be increased.

Also, there is no necessity to file complaints; even informing the police is enough to initiate police action, added Kumar.
