In an effort to announce postgraduate course results as soon as possible, a single- evaluation system was recommended during the Academic Council of Bangalore University. Vice-chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev, registrar (administration) BC Mylarappa R, and BU registrar (evaluation) TR Subramanya took part in the discussion.

Since there was no positive response from the members for the new system, they have decided to go ahead with the present evaluation system. They said that the present system was designed after  giving much thought to quality. The same standard may not exist, if a new evaluation system is brought into force.

The present system has internal and external valuators, whose names appear in the panel of examiners approved by the Board of Studies and Syndicate. The results are the average of the two valuations. In case, there is a difference of 20 marks in the two evaluations, and the script is valued by the third examiner whose assessment is final.

Even the suggestion of taking up the system on an experimental basis was rejected. Dev said, “This has turned into a big bugbear. There must be something wrong if the results are taking four-six months to be announced. The results are sometimes being announced almost six months after the exams, which will turn the purpose of the exam null and void,” he said, adding, “I am just begging the custodians to announce the results.”
