The term ‘ageless’ suits him perfectly; and as actor-director Ramesh Aravind completes 25 years in the film industry, he can only say that he’s rather grateful that films happened to him. And over the years, he’s effortlessly shifted gears from being before the camera to behind it.

His forthcoming film, Nam Anna Don, in which he is acting and directing, is a satire — like some of his previous films — but this time, it deals with the medical fraternity. “When it comes to medical facilities, human life comes first and then profitability of the business; this is the crux of my film. I have always believed that there’s nothing like a vehicle of fun to drive a point across to the audience,” he states. With this film, Ramesh returned to direction after a gap of two-and-a-half years. “I acted in nine films during this period. It’s really not possible to do more than a film a year if I’m acting and directing it,” he says, adding, “I’ve never found it hard to switch from acting to direction simultaneously but I do agree that wearing too many hats at the same time can get physically taxing. Every minute of the day goes into thinking about the film — filming, post-production, posters, tagline.”

The veteran actor has never shied away from romancing younger heroines in his films.

“We need to keep with the times. I have no qualms in doing anything my role needs me to — after all, it’s acting. In Nam Anna Don, I perform heart surgeries on 22 children on screen while in reality, I can’t even read a thermometer,” Ramesh explains.

Known to have given opportunities to a lot of newcomers, the actor feels it’s just a knack to scout for talent. “In Accident, I had nine RJs in different roles. When I’m not shooting, I go for plays and am on the lookout for interesting actors or maybe, a talent choreographer during some stage show,” he signs off.

Completing 25 years in the industry is something that Ramesh doesn’t really want to tout around town. “The time doesn’t matter, what’s important is that I’m happy with the way things have been over the years. There’s never been a dull moment — no loss of goodwill, fights or scandals; I’ve never been late on the sets, there have been some big hits at regular intervals — in short, my grey cells have always been abuzz,” he ends.
