The 17th Fast Track court (FTC) on Friday awarded four years imprisonment to a music teacher of a private high  school in connection with the kidnap and illegal detention of a 14-year-old girl.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs5,000 on V Ijakal, the music teacher. Four others accused in the case — his father D Victor, a pastor in a church in Neelasandra, Prem Kumar, Uday Kumar and Shiva Kumar — were acquitted for lack of evidence.

The teacher was awarded one year imprisonment and Rs1,000 fine for charges under section 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and four years imprisonment and Rs4,000 fine for charges under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping).

Two years ago, 23-year-old Ijakal was working as a music teacher in a private high school in Basavanagudi. He was attracted to the 14-year old ninth grader (name withheld) with whom he began talking over phone every evening.

Soon, they fell in love. On July 31, 2009, during   Varamahalakshmi festival, they went to Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. His friends Prem Kumar of Jayanagar, Uday Kumar of PK Nagar and Shiva Kumar of Ramakrishna Garden accompanied them to Tiruvannamalai and later returned to the city.

Ijakal and the girl first stayed in a lodge in Tiruvannamalai. Later, he took her to the Munnar in Kerala where he met his father’s friend Kalesh K Pal, who served as a priest in a local church. He told Pal that he had married the girl.

But the priest called Ijakal’s father and told about his son arrival with a minor girl. Victor asked his friend to keep them in Munnar. The priest allowed them to stay at his MMJT Estate in Munnar.
Meanwhile, the minor’s father Sampath, a businessman, filed a missing case with Tyagarajanagar police.

Later, he approached the high court which directed the police to produce the girl before the court. On September 18, 2009, police traced the couple to Munnar estate, rescued the girl and arrested the teacher. A case of kidnap and rape was filed against him. Later, the rape case was dropped due to lack of evidence.
