Film director Madan Patel has done it again. Known for organising media briefings at the drop of a hat to narrate his problems with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regional officer, Patel on Saturday complained about the negligence of K Nagaraja in issuing a certificate to his film Satyananda.

Patel, accompanied by a few leaders including Spandana Janapara Sanghatane president Veena, was seen brimming with confidence about getting the certificate for his controversial film Satyananda. Claiming that the Union information and broadcasting minister has ordered an inquiry against Nagaraja, regional officer, CBFC, Patel said: “I am hopeful of Nagaraja being exposed during the inquiry to be conducted by I&B ministry officials. I have explained how Nagaraja has been harassing me by delaying the issue of certificate to my film Satyananda, thus making me to incur a huge loss.”

He said the regional officer, CBFC, Hyderabad has issued a certificate for the Telugu version of Satyananda but Nagaraja has not bothered to issue the certificate even after the revising committee, led by veteran theatre personality Arundati Nag, recommended the issuing of an ‘A’ certificate with a few cuts. “I am the director of the Telugu as well as the Kannada versions,” he said. “As per Section 7F of the Cinematography Act 1952, no suit or other legal proceedings shall lie against the advisory panel or any officer or member of the advisory panel, as the case may be, in respect of anything which is in good faith done or intended to be done under this Act. According to me, the regional officer’s job is to watch the movie and certify whether it is watchable by children or adults.”

Patel also expressed surprise over the negligence of the authorities concerned in punishing Swamy Nityananda for ruining the lives of many women. He alleged that many government officials have colluded with Nityananda.

Meanwhile, Nagaraja termed Patel’s allegations a publicity gimmick. “Do you expect government officials or ministers to keep quiet whenever they receive a complaint from the public?” he said. “It is quite natural for government officials or ministers to order an inquiry. I had already received a letter from Ranjan P Thakur, private secretary of the information and broadcasting minister. I have already replied to it.”

Veena asked the state government to seek the resignation of Karnataka State Women’s Commission chairperson Manjula C for her reluctance to issue a statement against Nityananda. “The Tamil Nadu State Women’s Commission has proved its mettle by issuing a notice to Nityananda,” Veena said.

“However, Manjula, who had evinced keen interest to visit various places where women’s rights were violated, has not even bothered to issue a statement against Nityananda.” She also blamed the Hennur police for not directing Nityananda to attend an inquiry in a case filed against him.
Manjula C said she was not interested in interfering in issues that were pending before various courts.
