Documents that were made available to media houses on Sunday revealed that funds to the tune of Rs5.50crore were paid by a company owned by  former minister Krishnaiah Shetty, a loyalist of Karnataka's chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, to members of the chief minister’s family.

Documents showed that funds were transferred to Dhavalagiri Properties, allegedly owned by Yeddyurappa’s sons BY Raghavendra and BY Vijayendra. Similar payments were made to Bhagat Homes, in which Yeddyurappa’s son-in-law Sohan Kumar is said to hold a major stake.

Payments were made by Balaji Krupa Enterprises, reportedly owned by former minister Krishnaiah Shetty, a Yeddyurappa loyalist. Balaji Krupa Enterprises had also succeeded in getting about 400 acres of land in the green belt area of Anekal taluk, in the outskirts of Bangalore city, converted into a yellow belt area, thus enabling it to take up a housing project.

Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy alleged that the payments were returns for the favour granted by the chief minister, converting the green belt land into yellow belt.

Denying these allegations, Krishanaiah Shetty said that the amounts were transferred as a loan that the company had provided to the chief minister’s kin. He added that he had since dissociated from the firm. “I now have no connection with Balaji Krupa Enterprises, I moved out two years ago,” he said.

Kumaraswamy also had documents to show that the chief minister had let out his residence at RMV Layout for a sum of `50 lakh to a private firm. However, political meetings and even press conferences had been held in the premises, showing that there were irregularities even there, Kumaraswamy said.
