Minor delivers baby in Bangalore, businessman held

A 38-year old man was arrested by the Siddapur police on Saturday for allegedly raping and making a 17-year-old girl pregnant.

The police have identified the accused as Narayana, a resident of Lalbagh- Siddapur. Police said Narayana, who runs a pawn broker shop, had allegedly befriended the girl who was a frequent visitor to his house. Assistant commissioner of police (Jayanagar sub-division) Ramesh Chandra said even the girl’s parents were known to him. He is the father of four children.

The officer said that the man allegedly sexually assaulted the girl several times, but her  parents had no clue about it as there were no visible changes in the girl. But they realised that something was wrong when the girl's pregnancy advanced.

The girl delivered a girl child on Friday at a private hospital.
Repeated pleas from the mother finally made the girl confess to her mother about the sexual assault on her by Narayana. The girl is said to have delivered the child in the seventh month of pregnancy.

The girl’s mother, Lakshmi, has lodged a complaint with the police after her daughter delivered the child. The new born baby’s health condition is considered to be very weak, the officer said. The child and the mother are undergoing treatment at the Vani Vilas hospital, Inspector BS Angadi said.

The Siddapur police have registered the case under sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code on Friday. Investigation is on.
