Minister for energy, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, Shobha Karandlaje, urged the central government to intervene and solve the LPG crisis by issuing an ordinance.

In a letter written to Union minister for petroleum and natural gas, Jaipal Reddy, Karandlaje said that unless the monopoly of the cartel is broken, there will be no long lasting solution to the problem in the near future.

“The only way to take control of the situation would be by way of acquiring roughly 4,000 tank trucks that were deployed by the cartel,” Karandlaje said. Indefinite strike by the bulk LPG transporters in Southern States had commenced two days ago had already hit LPG supplies in the state.

“Without losing time, a concrete and practical solution has to be found and central government has to issue an ordinance by the government of India to acquire all the tank trucks that were provided by the LPG transport cartel to the three oil companies to transport LPG,” she added.
