Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda has opened his office doors for all to watch his work without even moving out of your living rooms. Gowda, on Wednesday, launched live video streaming of proceedings in his office at Vidhana Soudha and home-office Krishna. This is a step towards ensuring transparency in administration and more such initiatives are in the offing to reach out to common man in making administration effective. The live streaming could be watched on computers and mobiles phones. A system of grievance redressal through mobile phones and filing of request for information under Right to Information (RTI) would be enabled through mobile phones in the coming days, Gowda said.

“I want people to know what is happening in my office. I want to bring greater transparency in governance. Let it start from my own office. Offices of other ministers too would be covered in phases,” he said. Gowda said efforts would be made to make use of technology in improving administration and making it more responsive to address people’s grievances.

The Citizens’ Charter Bill, which would guarantee time-bound redressal of grievances for citizens in government offices, would be introduced in the next session of state legislature starting on December 5.

Gowda assured that a system, which would allow people to directly send their petitions for redressal of various grievances to the chief minister’s office, would be launched soon.

Rs25 lakh for streaming
The live streaming of chief minister’s activities at his office comes at a cost of Rs25 lakh for the state exchequer.

The system runs on four close-circuit cameras installed at the chief minister’s home office ‘Krishna’ and one camera at his Vidhana Soudha office.

Principal secretary of e-governance department MN Vidyashankar said the streaming system was chosen after studying similar systems and claimed that this one was the best.
