A 21-year-old student, daughter of a head constable with Karnataka State Reserve Police, allegedly committed suicide by hanging in Madivala on Sunday.

The deceased, K Nethravathi, was a third-year BSc student of BHS First Grade College, Jayanagar.

Her father, Kadregowda, is a head constable with KSRP and a native of Tumkur district.

The girl hanged to death in the Suvarna Block of KSRP Police Quarters, Madivala. Police did not find any suicide note.

Preliminary questioning of relatives revealed that Nethravathi had been waking up late for the past couple of days.

On Sunday, she woke at 8 am, and got an earful from her mother, Siddagangamma. Police said Nethravathi might have been depressed and disturbed by the repeated chiding over rising late.

Siddagangamma, who had gone out of the house after scolding her daughter, returned to find Nethravathi’s room locked. She knocked and got no response, then brought along neighbours who forced the door open.

They found Nethravathi hanging.

Neighbours rushed Nethravathi to St John’s Hospital. Doctors there, however, declared her brought dead.

The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination was conducted. Police said the final rites would be conducted in the family’s native place Gubbi, in Tumkur district. Madivala police have registered an unnatural death case.
