State BJP president KS Eshwarappa appeared before a local court on Saturday and got conditional bail in connection with a bandh call by the BJP on January 22 to protest governor HR Bhardwaj’s decision to allow prosecution of chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on land scam and nepotism charges.
Hearing a complaint filed by advocate Dharmapal Gowda, the seventh additional chief metropolitan magistrate Jayashankar directed Eshwarappa to appear before the court on Saturday, failing which warrants would be issued. After hearing the argument, the court granted conditional bail and adjourned the case to August 27.
Gowda, the petitioner, said the state had incurred huge losses due to the bandh call, which was against a Supreme Court verdict. He had also claimed a compensation of Rs1,000 crore.
The court had earlier summoned Eshwarappa on April 27, but he had failed to appear as he was in Puttaparthi due to the death of Sathya Sai Baba.
Addressing the media after the court appearance, Eshwarappa reiterated his stand.
He said: “Bhardwaj is a politician and he is uncomfortable as a governor. Therefore, the Centre should recall him and send him into active politics. Instead of sending an advisory to state government, Union home minister P Chidambaram should have sent a letter to Bhardwaj as the latter is acting unconstitutionally.”
He added that another round of cabinet expansion would take place after the next legislative session.
The state BJP unit plans to consult with national leaders to chalk out a programme to celebrate the BJP’s three years in power.
