Denying media reports that police had failed to provide security to Kargil hero Subedar R Balakrishna of the Madras Engineer Group (MEG) and Centre, police commissioner Shankar M Bidari told the Karnataka high court that all necessary help and security had been provided to the subedar.

In his objections filed in the high court, which took up hearing on the matter on Wednesday, Bidari said the media reports that police had not helped the subedar were false and incorrect. Bidari pointed out that MEG & Centre had transferred Balakrishna to Pune in September after its investigations found that the subedar’s nuisance in his neighbourhood in Horamavu had created all the problems.

It may be recalled that Balakrishna was allegedly beaten up by the local corporator, Tejaswini’s husband, Rajanna, and his henchmen after the subedar took on the water mafia. Pipes supplying water to his residence were also damaged.

The division bench of chief justice JS Khehar and justice AS Bopanna adjourned the case after asking the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to file its objections. The high court took suo motu cognisance of the issue and had slapped notices on the city police and BWSSB.
