A three-member gang robbed a jewellery shop in Naganathapura, Parappana Agrahara, on Saturday, decamping with 700gm of gold jewellery. The owner of the Surya Bankers and Jewellery, Tara Ram, was roughed up when he tried to put up some resistance.

The gang visited Ram’s shop on KSRP Road at 8.30am and evinced interest in buying jewellery. In his complaint, Ram said that he was cleaning the premises when the gangsters entered the shop.

Ram said that he showed them the gold chains and rings that were on display. He was at ease as his ‘customers’ were speaking in a language (a dialect of Rajasthani) he could understand. The gangsters were aged between 25 and 27 years, said Ram. He also told the police that he was waiting for his brother Heera Lal to come to the shop at 9am.

Ram said, “The gang asked me to show them different designs of jewellery. I brought jewels from the locker which weighed about 1.5kg. Then, one of the gangsters held me while another punched him in the face. Later, one of them put the jewellery in a school bag, even as the third gangster was waiting near the door. All the three fled on a motorcycle.”
