Frazer Town is an important area in Pulikeshinagar Ward. It is one of the oldest areas in Bangalore and one can see a plaque commemorating its naming in honour of John Fraser at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Mosque Road.

Though Frazer Town is 102-year-old, it craves for infrastructure. If the condition of footpaths is anything to go by, it seems that Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities have conveniently forgotten about their primary responsibility. One can see heaps of debris on both sides of Mosque Road. The public, especially senior citizens, need to be extra cautious while walking on the footpaths. The cobblestones on the footpaths are uneven thus causing lot of inconvenience for the pedestrians. “It is almost two years. The corporator has not done anything. I expect him to direct the BBMP officials to take up the work immediately,’’ said M Mohan, a resident.

No space for percolation of rain water is left around the roadside trees. A few months back, the BBMP commissioner had ordered to leave the space around trees while concreting the footpaths but it can bee seen clearly that the instructions were not followed.

“No contractor is interested to do his duty properly. More work, more income seems to be their idea. The BBMP will have to float tenders for removing the concrete around the trees again to ensure percolation of rain water. It will be double work and waste of tax-payers’ money,’’ K Shanmugam, a resident, said.

The potholes on Robertson Road and slabs on the footpath on Ahmed Sait Road showcase the perfunctory attitude of the authorities concerned. The gravel that was used to fill up the potholes on Robertson Road is posing a danger for two-wheelers. “I expect the BBMP engineers to ensure the potholes filled up properly to avoid two-wheelers skid on this road,’’ said a resident.

The stormwater drain near Ahmed Sait Road has become a nuisance. The stagnated water and weed have become a breeding place for mosquitoes that make life miserable for the residents. “The residents of Frazer Town have the privilege of finding their corporator only on posters and flexi boards. He has been neglecting the development of Pulikeshinagar ward, especially Frazer Town, for the last two years.

His henchmen rule the roost while he was busy with his personal work. There is lot to be done for the development of infrastructure in this area. The residents are facing lot of problems due to acute shortage for drinking water,’’ said Pradeep Kumar Reddy, former corporator.

Abdul Rakeeb Zakir, corporator, Pulikeshinagar Ward, was not available for his comment as multiple efforts of contacting him went in vain.
