The high court on Monday issued notices to the state government regarding the recent attack on youths at a Mangalore homestay. A division bench headed by chief justice Vikramajit Sen was listening to a PIL seeking action against the mediapersons present during the incident.

The PIL, filed by Louis J Pinto and 22 others, argued that mediapersons should be brought to book for failure to intimate the authorities. They also took exception to the statements made by C Manjula, the chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Women.

The petitioner contended that in the wake of repeated attacks on the youth, steps ought to have been taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents. These incidents have badly dented the image of Mangalore city, they added.

On July 28 a group of miscreants had assaulted young men and women, who had assembled at a homestay hotel on Mangalore outskirts for a birthday party.
