What is it with cricket matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium that leads personalities claiming to be VIPs to get into fights with the policemen posted there?

After the January incident in which Anuja Pande, wife of IAS officer Pankaj Kumar Pande, slapped Ulsoorgate police inspector Anjumala T Nayak over not being allowed to enter from gate number 1, Monday saw former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad and his wife Jayanti getting into an argument with the cops.

The trigger for the incident, which took place about 12.15 am, was an assistant sub-inspector of police of Cubbon Park police station, asking Jayanti to move out of the high-security players’ zone at the stadium just after Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed Deccan Chargers in an IPL match, as it amounted to security breach.

Taking offence to the manner in which she was asked to leave, Jayanti reportedly said she was “a citizen of an independent country” and nobody could ask her to leave. She allegedly questioned the cops if they knew who she was. The policemen, including DCP (Central) BR Ravikanthegowda, not knowing who she was referring to, said they did not know any “Venkatesh Prasad”.

The  altercation led to Prasad jumping in to support Jayanti. The DCP alleged that Prasad, too, resorted to addressing him in singular terms. The heated exchange ended only at 12.30 am.
AddlCP (law and order), T Suneel Kumar, said they have sought a report from the DCP regarding the incident.
