A 36-year-old car driver, K Ramesh, was killed on the spot and three BBMP workers — Gangadhar, Jagadish and Jairam — were injured in an accident on Bangalore International Airport Road, near Bagalur Cross, on Saturday.

The accident took place at 5.30 am in front of Indian Air Force station in Yelahanka, said Basha Sab, assistant commissioner of police, traffic (north-east). The three BBMP workers were painting road lines and had parked a tractor that had the appropriate warning signs displayed for motorists. At 5am, a taxi hit the tractor and a verbal duel ensued between the BBMP workers and taxi driver. After 15 minutes, another cab heading to the airport hit the taxi, which was parked in the middle of the road.

Now, a quarrel broke out between the two cab drivers. Ramesh, who was heading back from the airport, saw the ruckus on the other side of the road and stopped his car. He then went across to pacify the drivers. At this time, another taxi heading to the airport rammed into the parked cars and tractor. Tragically, it also mowed down Ramesh.

Gangadhar, Jagadish and Jairam were injured and rushed to nearby private hospital. While Jagadish and Jairam received first aid, Gangadhar, who was injured seriously, was admitted to the hospital.

A case has been registered and all three taxis seized. “Drivers of
the three taxis escaped from the spot after the incident. We have clues about the drivers and they will be arrested soon,” said police inspector K Ashok Kumar.
