Five dacoits who looted travellers on the highway after stopping their vehicles and tying them to a tree have been arrested.

Subramanyapura police caught them on July 25 as they were preparing to strike again. The police seized stolen property worth Rs61 lakh, arms and the car the gang used for the operations. The arrested are Christi Mike, R Krishna alias Jyothi Krishna, Suresh, Ravi, and Sharath.

On July 25, police received information that the gang was waiting at Gubbalala Gate on Kanakapura Road to waylay their victims. A police team went to the spot and arrested them.

When questioned, the dacoits said they always came in a car to the highway to loot travellers.

The same gang committed a dacoity near Mudigere village in the limits of Channapattana police station limit on July 22.

After assaulting a lorry driver and cleaner and tying them to a tree, the gang drove away their truck, which had 50 tonnes of steel worth Rs61 lakh.
