The schools affiliated to the Karnataka government will not be allowed to admit students for the academic year 2011-12 before April 2011.

The state department of public instructions had issued an order on February 25 and insisted all the schools affiliated to the state board, must refrain from starting admission process before April.

The responsibility of monitoring the admissions has been given to the concerned deputy director of public instructions (DDPI). The order says: “Private aided, unaided, pre-primary, primary and high schools should start admissions from April according to the Karnataka Education Act 1973 (Sec 47). And all the schools need to follow the calendar of events issued by the department to maintain transparency in admission process.”

“If any school is found violating the order, the head of the institution will be made responsible and following the report submitted by DDPIs about the violations, we will take action,” said an official from department of public instructions.

According to the order, all the schools have to put admission-related issues on notice board.

“From the date of issue of applications, schools should put everything related to admissions on notice board like the last date for submission of filled applications, last date for admissions and the list of students selected,” the official said.

DDPIs of the concerned districts have to visit the schools to monitor the process. If they find any school not following the rules, and submit the report regarding the same to the district-level education regulatory authority, which is headed by the district commissioner.

However, there is no mention of the actions which will be taken against the schools which violates admission rules. “This has to be discussed at a higher level and will be finalised soon. After that we will issue a circular,” said official.
