In separate incidents, four people committed suicide in the city between Thursday evening and Friday evening.

In the first incident, a 16-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling in his house on Thursday night in Madiwala because his mother refused to buy him a bicycle. V Sundeep was a first-year PUC student. His suicide note said his mother spent Rs200-Rs300 every day but she did not buy him a bicycle, because of which he was depressed and committing suicide.

Sundeep did not attend college on Thursday. His mother, Shakuntala, returned from a temple at 12.30 pm to find her son hanging. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.

In the second incident, a hotel owner hanged himself from a tree in Jnana Bharathi. Mahesh, 38, committed suicide on the premises of a government primary school in Nagarabhavi. The police said Mahesh left his home early on Friday morning, saying he was going for a morning walk. Instead, he went to the school and hanged himself. He had incurred losses in his hotel business, the police said.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

In the third incident, a 25-year-old home-maker allegedly committed suicide in her house on Friday.

Mamata had got married to Pradeep four years ago. Pradeep is a labourer in the city. The couple used to have frequent fights. On Thursday, Pradeep did not return home till late in the night as he was celebrating Holi with friends. On Friday, the couple quarrelled over this and later Mamata hanged herself from the ceiling fan.

In the fourth incident, a 28-year-old home-maker allegedly committed suicide by stetting herself on fire. C Roopa was a resident of PIL Layout in Chokkanayakanahalli. At 8.45 am on Friday, she poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire. The neighbours rushed to her help, but she succumbed to burn injuries.

Roopa had got married to Eranna, a traffic police constable, three years ago. Eranna’s family members and Roopa had disagreements over various issues. Roopa’s father Madaiah has filed a complaint, alleging that Eranna and his family members are responsible for her death.
