The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has said that it would conduct a fresh inquiry into allegations of irregularity in the selection process of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). The allegations relate to the recruitment done in the years 1998, 1999 and 2004. The CID made this declaration in the high court on Tuesday.

Kaleel Ahmed and 61 others filed a writ petition seeking a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in the KPSC’s selection process in these three years. In the last hearing of this case, the high court pulled up the state investigation agency, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for not being able to submit an investigation report. Advocate general Ashok Haranahalli on Tuesday submitted that a fresh inquiry will be conducted, and a case registered so that modalities for proceeding in the matter can begin. Having found some candidates and officials guilty of breach of procedure, the CID expressed its intention of registering a case.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice HG Ramesh gave the state government two weeks’ time to place the modalities before the court. The case was adjourned to August 9.

Meanwhile, KN Krishna, former chairman of the KPSC, stated in his affidavit of June 21 said that no irregularities were committed during his tenure, from 2001 to 2007.
