District officials in Chikkaballapur woke up on Tuesday a day after tragedy struck the school bus  of BGS Rural English School when the vehicle toppled, killing one and injuring 29.

Sources said that district commissioner, Dr N Manjula held a meeting with managements of all education institutions of Chikkaballapur taluk.

Superintendent of police, Dr TD Pawar was also present in the meeting.
Manjula instructed the schools to follow all the rules and regulations while recruiting drivers and cleaners for their vehicles to avoid a repeat of Monday’s mishap. Manjula directed the schools to collect all the details about the driver and verify their driving licence and experience before hiring them.

Meanwhile, the Chikkaballapur police have started investigation into the case. Inspector Shiva Kumar said that the driver Nagaraj and gardener Narayanaswamy, who was allegedly driving the bus, were still absconding. “We will catch them soon,” Kumar said.

The 11 students who were admitted to the district government hospital were discharged on Tuesday morning. A police officer said the discharged students were out of danger and had left to their native places.

However, school teacher Nayaz Pasha and eight students identified as Shashank, Harsha, Sahana, Harish, Bhargavi, Lalitha, Vinutha and Harish are still undergoing treatment at Columbia Asia Hospital. They are reported to be out of danger. They will be discharged soon, a senior police officer said.

The police are planning to record the statements by the students and teachers who were in the ill-fated bus when the accident happened. “It will be helpful to make the case strong against the driver. Along with the students and teachers, we also record the statements of other officials of the school also,” said a police officer.
