Peter Sarstedt’s 'Where Do You Go To My Lovely' used to be one of the favourites for Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and friends during her school days. Remembering those days in 1968 when she used to sing it, on Saturday, the chairman and managing director of Biocon India Ltd sang it again for her corporate friends for a cause as heart-warming as her voice – to fund the treatment of seven children in need of surgery for cardiac disorders, treatment for cancer and thalassemia. Cultural philanthropy has, indeed, arrived in Bangalore.

Parvathy Omanakuttan, former Miss India, who is also the Goodwill Ambassador of the foundation, was cheering the singers and later on, didn’t hesitate to sing a song or two herself. The organisers of this charity event had seen a very successful ‘6th CEO Chefs Share-a-Smile Lunch’ in Bangalore last year. It had nine CEOs donning chef’s hats for a good cause.
Dr Thomas Chandy, founder, chairman and managing director of Hosmat Hospitals, set the tone for the evening with his deep voice rendering a soulful Spanish song followed by the all-time hit Don’t Cry For Me Argentina. Chandran Sankaran, founder and CEO of Zyme Solutions, took the stage with two peppy tunes. Shireesh Joshi, director marketing, Airtel Bharti, Sanjay Purohit, managing director, Levis India, Geetu Verma, vice president (innovation), PepsiCo India, and Pankajj Chaturvedi, executive director & CEO, Rich Graviss Products, were the other singers of the evening. The organisers said that the event raked in Rs7.5 lakh, at the time of filing this report.
