Cauvery water to reach 8 areas next year

BWSSB’s efforts to accomplish Cauvery IV stage second phase gains momentum with Rs1,150 crore being added to its kitty.

Seven CMCs and one TMC namely KR Puram, Mahadevpura, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Dasarahalli, Bommanahalli, Yelahanka and Byratarayanapura and Kengeri will get water from the river by March 2012, the board has promised.

“We were expecting a little more, but this is adequate to complete the project. Old areas will also get from this pool which will go up to 1,470mld when the additional 500mld is pumped in. In fact, we expect to have a surplus of 50 mld. The demand and supply will match,” said BWSSB chief engineer Narayana.

There is more good news for the water-starved capital. The budget claims that a survey backed by National Remote Sensing Agency on the diversion of water from west-flowing rivers for supplying drinking water to Bangalore Urban and Rural, Tumkur, Chickballapur, Kolar and Chitradurga Districts has been completed.
