BSNL staff to protest tomorrow

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of BSNL executives and non-executives of Karnataka Circle is observing a one-day strike on Thursday, which will result in disruption of customer-care services.

The customer-care centres that oversee payment of bills, sale and recharge of SIM cards will not function on Thursday, said Gundanna CK, convenor, BSNL Joint Action Committee, Karnataka.

He added that about 9.2 crore cellphone users and 2.9 crore fixed-line users could be inconvenienced due to the strike.

The JAC is protesting against Voluntary Retirement Services, immediate repartition of ITS non-optees, handing over charges to absorbed executives, withdrawal of existing medical benefits, and leave travel concession enhancement, among others.

The protest is part of the all-India strike where more than 2.75 lakh BSNL employees will take part.

About 8,000 employees of Bangalore circle will take part in the strike.
