A wedding reception ended in police lathi-charge after the bridegroom threw tantrums over the lack of arrangements made by the bride’s family.

Though the area MLA pacified the groom and his relatives, the bride who saw her prospective husband’s true colours, refused to marry him.

Following her refusal, the relatives of the groom and bride clashed, prompting the police to resort to lathi-charge.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at the Siddaganga Samudaya Bhavana in Shivanagar, where Dr Amruth V from Hubli, and city-based Dr Shwetha were to get married.

Dr Amruth allegedly was dissatisfied with the arrangements made for his family and friends, and picked up a quarrel with Dr Shwetha’s family. Efforts to pacify him went in futile, till Basaveshwaranagar MLA Nagendra Babu stepped in.

The groom agreed to go ahead with the wedding, but Dr Shwetha refused. She spoke out her mind and said it would be difficult for her to live with him.

Her refusal reignited the tension, and during the altercation that followed, her relatives allegedly assaulted Dr Amruth, which resulted in a group clash.

The Basaveshwaranagar police soon swung into action and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the clashing groups. A case of assault was also registered against some of them.
