On Tuesday, it was the turn of the BJP leaders to knock on governor HR Bhardwaj’s doors in a bid to wash dirt of the mine fields of the state.

A delegation, led by party MP Ayanur Manjunath, submitted a memorandum with a booklet containing details of mining irregularities committed during the earlier Congress and JD(S) regimes in the state.

The memorandum stated that it was during the tenure of N Dharam Singh that a decision was taken to allow movement of iron ore dumped illegally on patta lands by issuing dispatch permits ignoring the advice of mines department officials. The Lokayukta has held this as unlawful and recommended recovery of loss amounting to Rs23 crore from Dharam Singh.

But strangely, the then governor, Rameshwar Thakur, dropped the case against Singh citing flimsy grounds.

“The governor was surprised at some of the facts and documents furnished by us. He has assured that the documents would be sent to President Pratibha Patil and Lokayukta for further action,” Ayanur Manjunath said after meeting the governor.

Cong and JD(S) demons of corruption
Excise minister MP Renukacharya called Congress and JD(S) the father and mother of corruption in the state. “The two parties were misusing the office of governor for their political ends,” he said.

He said that JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy and his father HD Deve Gowda had no moral right to speak about corruption. “Gowda’s family members had purchased  acres of benami lands in Bidadi, Srirangapatna and Kengeri.” Training his guns on Congress leaders, He said, almost all Congress leaders, including Union external affairs minister SM Krishna, were involved in one or more corruption cases.
