The tug of war the Karnataka BJP over the chief minister’s post will see the climax on Wednesday as the party high command succeeded in forcing BS Yeddyurappa to attend the budget session on Wednesday when chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda presents his maiden budget.
The BJP core committee will meet later in the day in Delhi to decide the fate of Yeddyurappa who is camping in a luxury resort with 66 BJP MLAs threatening to bring down the Gowda government if he is not reinstated as the chief minister.
According to sources, Yeddyurappa was forced to soften his stand after RSS leadership expressed its strong displeasure at his antics and wanted him suspended from the party along with some of his hard core loyalists.
However, the Yeddyurappa group has not yet given up its hopes of getting its wish fulfilled. A group of Yeddyurappa loyalists including ministers Basavaraj Bommai, Jagadish Shettar and Umesh Katti is likely to leave for Delhi after attending the assembly session on Wednesday to meet BJP national leaders.
“This group will try to convince the party high command on need to reinstate Yeddyurappa as the chief minister without any delay,” said sources in Yeddyurappa camp.
The party high command has made it clear that Sadananda Gowda would present the budget come what may and anyone who refuses to cooperate in presenting the budget would invite strong disciplinary action.
The party high command is reportedly working out a compromise formula to end the deadlock. According to information accessed by DNA, the BJP high command is said to be ready to offer the post of state BJP president’s post to Yeddyurappa and make Eshwarappa the deputy chief minister.
