Undergraduate students of colleges affiliated to Bangalore University shared their problems with syndicate members during a meeting organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday.

About 350 students and three syndicate members participated in the three-hour session. Most problems of students related to revaluation, incompletion of portions, lack of supply of textbooks and increase in SC/ST quota.

The students also wanted the university to set up a grievance cell.
“If we apply for re-valuation, it is always a long wait for results. Though there are mistakes from the university side, they will not announce the re-valuation results on time and this is creating problems for us,” said a student.

BS Krishna, a syndicate member, said: “The university is facing a shortage of evaluators. There are about 640 affiliated colleges and the university receives at least 2.5 lakh answer scripts every year. So, it has become difficult to announce the results on time. However, this problem will be sorted out soon.”

This year, the university has increased the quota for SC/ST students. The students expressed their unhappiness over this.
“We are not against reservation. But we don’t like the decision of the university to increase the percentage of SC/ST quota. This will affect merit students belonging to other categories,” said another student.

The students also demanded the university to set up a grievance cell immediately.

Jagadish Prasad, a syndicate member, said that the syndicate had constituted a committee for this.

“The committee headed by Manasa will submit the final report in the next syndicate meeting. After that, the university will consider setting up a grievance cell at Jnana Bharathi campus.”
The students also demanded postponement of examinations scheduled for October.

“These examinations used to be held in November. But this year, the university has advanced the date to October. In many colleges, teachers have not completed the portions and most of us have not received the textbooks. So, it is better to postpone the examinations,” said a student representative.

Another syndicate member said: “This issue was discussed at a recent syndicate meeting. The text books will reach students in a couple of days. We will discuss with university officials about the postponement of examinations.”
