A 21-year-old student of Bachelor of Business Management (BBM), Sovnes Naskar, jumped to his death from the terrace of his hostel in Oxford Educational Institutions in JP Nagar Phase I on Monday night.

Police suspect a call to his sweetheart in Kolkata on the eve of Valentine’s Day could have been so disappointing for him that it may have led to him taking the extreme step.

The police traced the last call on Sovnes’ mobile phone to a girl in Kolkata, but they have withheld her name.

Sovnes lived in room number 108 of the hostel along with two others. One of his roommates was speaking to a friend outside the room while another was out on the hostel campus, playing guitar.

The police said Sovnes informed his friend outside the room that he was taking a bottle to fill water. However, he went to the terrace to take his fatal leap.

Sovnes’ father, mother and sister live in Kolkata, according to his Facebook information, which also carries a message of love for his girlfriend.
