Recession or otherwise, gold will never go out of style in India.

Jewels Exotica, the three-day jewellery exhibition starting from Saturday, promises to prove just that by showcasing some of the most exclusive jewelleries in the country.

“There are many jewellery shows in the country and even in Bangalore. However, this one is different because it caters to the upmarket crowd. We want to showcase gold as a luxury item as opposed to something one buys as an investment,” said Sandeep Bekal, convenor of the event.

It will also be a move towards making design value as important as the weight of the jewellery. “While most people in India still look at gold as something one should invest in, we want to emphasise this exhibition on the art and design value it boasts. We have Amrapalli jewellery from Jaipur, we also have GRT from the South. Even Geetanjali jewellers will be participating in this event,” he added.

And one major jewellery brand will also be using the exhibition to dip its toes in the market down South. “PC Chandra, which is a premium brand in Kolkata, will actually be launching in Bangalore through Jewels Exotica. They are known for their handcrafted jewels,” he said.

As for the success of the event, Bekal says that the crowd and not the sales will dictate it. “We will be displaying jewellery worth a few thousand to pieces that are worth Rs10 crores. If we can attract the kind of crowd we are hoping will come for the event, then that’s the success right there,” he said adding that the event that will held in Gayathri Vihar in Palace Grounds, will resemble a five star hotel.
