A sub-postmaster with HMT branch post office has been booked for stealing money from various depositors' accounts for the past three years.

The scam came to light when Sukumara, a depsitor, recently checked his account details.

To his shock, he found that a sum of Rs 19,000 had been withdrawn from his recurring deposit account.

He lodged a complaint with the postal authorities and they initiated an inquiry and zeroed in on MR Sudarshan, sub postmaster with HMT branch post office.

They found that Sudarshan used to withdraw money from various accounts. Assistant superintendent of post office, who conducted the inquiry, has filed a criminal case against Sudarshan.

He said that investigations revealed that so far he had stolen Rs 35,000 from various accounts.

Sudarshan, who admitted to the crime, has been suspended and a case has been filed with the police seeking a detailed investigation.

The Jalahalli police have registered a case and are investigating.
