The Bangalore International Airport will be named after Nada Prabhu Kempe Gowda and the cabinet will take a decision in this regard in its next meeting, said chief minister BS Yeddyurappa in the legislative assembly on Friday.
Reacting to a demand from Congress member DK Shivakumar to name the airport after the founder of Bangalore, Yeddyurappa said the government supports the demand and would not waste time in implementing it. “The state cabinet, in its next meeting, will take a decision in this regard and forward it to Union government.”
Expressing his displeasure at those who are opposing the proposal, Shivakumar said: “When the airport in Mumbai is named after Shivaji, Delhi’s after Indira Gandhi and Chennai’s after CN Annadurai, why shouldn’t we name Bangalore International Airport after Kempe Gowda.”
To this, Yeddyurappa said: “Nobody can stop it. If necessary I will lead an all-party delegation to Delhi to respect the decision of the government and people of Karnataka.”
